Favre is Playing
Told you so! Or, just look down past the cartoon post and there it is.
Not that this is surprising in the least.

Yeah, I know he said he won’t be playing, but this is Brett Favre we’re talking about. He can’t not play the game as long as he can do well. I’m a little honked off that he said he won’t be playing, since the whole on-again, off-again thing is getting tired, even for a huge Favre booster like me. You’d think he would have learned to keep his mouth shut by now, after his ongoing series of retirements for the past few years. The upside is he really does not need to do much training camp stuff, and in fact I think it’s a bad idea for him. He is not a spring chicken any more, and he needs to save his energy for the field.
Either way, Go Saints! If the Vikings can’t be there, I hope the Saints make it a two-fer this season.
When the spammers find an old post, I turn off comments on that post. It’s a random kind of thing, but I’ve found that leaving the ability to comment on brings even more of them. Since I get a notice for every comment I receive, no one gets to leave junk here.
I guess they do it because somehow you can count hyperlinks, even in comments, and somehow you can get money out of it. Otherwise, they’re just tools. Of course, it could be both.
Anyway, if you find a post you cannot comment on, you’ll know why.
Here is an article whose premise sounds quite interesting. I’m too busy to read it right now, but I hope it’s worth my time and yours. The executive summary written by the author:
The Western World has quietly become a civilization that undervalues men and overvalues women, where the state forcibly transfers resources from men to women creating various perverse incentives for otherwise good women to conduct great evil against men and children, and where male nature is vilified but female nature is celebrated. This is unfair to both genders, and is a recipe for a rapid civilizational decline and displacement, the costs of which will ultimately be borne by a subsequent generation of innocent women, rather than men, as soon as 2020.
As Robert Heinlein said, any civilization that does not value women and children will very soon disappear. “Women and children first,” is not just a cliche, it’s a recipe for survival. However, we cannot be sure what will happen to a civilization that undervalues men. Right now marriage is a huge risk for men, and much less so for women. While it’s true that a woman of good character would not make it that way, one cannot truly know another’s character until it is truly tested, and then, of course, it’s too late.
If you are at all interested in legal matters and how laws are interpreted, and the competing philosophies related to interpretation, you might want to take a look at this post from Jeff G. at protein-wisdom. The interpretation discussed is related to how I expect Supreme Court Justices to apply the constitution. I think this is important in general, but especially when we are going to have at least one new Justice appointed during the next few years.
While I may not agree with the principles of the person who wrote this blog post, I have to admit that it is an epic tale. It sounds like something out of a crime drama. I definitely would not want to be the person who lived through this.

Earlier I wrote that I was watching the Perry Mason series. I have discovered since then that if you stream them from the CBS site late enough at night, the streaming works pretty well and it isn’t too glitchy. You have to watch a few commercials, which is okay with me. My big problem with streaming is that it is usually too damn annoying to put up with, since I had never watched a show that didn’t either freeze up all the time or drop out entirely during the playing of a given episode.
Technology that does not work as advertised annoys me considerably.
More Mark Stein.
But, even without launching a single missile, Iran [by acquiring nuclear weapons] will at a stroke have transformed much of the map – and not just in the Middle East, where the Sunni dictatorships face a choice between an unsought nuclear arms race or a future as Iranian client states. In Eastern Europe, a nuclear Iran will vastly advance Russia’s plans for a de facto reconstitution of its old empire: In an unstable world, Putin will offer himself as the protection racket you can rely on. And you’d be surprised how far west “Eastern” Europe extends: Moscow’s strategic view is of a continent not only energy-dependent on Russia but also security-dependent. And, when every European city is within range of Tehran and other psycho states, there’ll be plenty of takers for that when the alternative is an effete and feckless Washington.
More later, maybe. I’m currently annoyed with the performance of the US men’s curling team. Also, my head hurts from last night.
If you have watched any teevee lately, you have seen the story about that guy who starred on reality shows killing his ex-wife and then cutting off her fingers, pulling out her teeth, and stuffing her in a suitcase. He was found hanged.
This is a good outcome. An even better one would have been if he had hanged himself before he killed his ex-wife.
This made me laugh. High point:
Goff allegedly approached a man and woman last Thursday afternoon on an isolated logging road in Harrison County and forced them into the woods with a rifle, Sheriff’s Maj. Ron Pullen said Wednesday.
They were forced to strip off their clothes and told to perform sexual acts when the male victim, described as a physically fit member of the military in his mid-30s, wrestled the gun away.
“He beat him until the stock broke over his head and then continued to beat him until he thought he had him incapacitated,” Pullen said.
Glorious.

If the president wants clean energy, that doesn’t create carbon dioxide (whatevs!!!) then why not move nuclear powerplants forward? They fix all the problems that the wackos bitch about.
We could have nukes all over the darn place, generating all the electric power we will ever need. Why give that idea up? Ideology should not matter a bit.
Anyway, people need to get their heads in the right place. If you really want to move forward, remove the barriers to nuclear power. We will all be a lot better off.
So, Jon and Kate are getting divorced. What a remarkable result. I’m so glad they’re “just thinking of the kids.”
Please.
I think she’s a shrew. However, it’s most likely she has always been that way. So Jon-boy suddenly discovering that fact of life this late in the game is, well, stupid. If he thought people got easier to get along with as you get older, then he is doubly dumb.
He should have learned to live with it. She should have learned to keep her mouth shut more often, and not treated him like a child when they were in public. And when you’re whole life is on teevee, you are always in public.
They should have worked it out because marriage is not about “eternal love” or “eternal happiness” or any crap like that. It’s about raising kids, and they have a truckload of kids that need a lot of raising. You suck it up and go on with life.
They should have done the counseling thing or “encounter weekends” or whatever the heck it takes for two people to grow the hell up and act like adults.
Am I married? Nope. If I were to think about it, I would take it very seriously. It isn’t about hearts and flowers and the bride’s big day and eternal happiness. It’s about dealing with the same thing every day and learning to not let stuff that bothers you bother you any more. It’s about taking care of everyone else’s needs before your own. Your life is not your own any more, and if you have kids, your life is now theirs.
I know that, which probably keeps me away from the whole thing. That’s a lot to ask, and the older I get the harder it is to contemplate the whole thing.
Little Jonny didn’t know it, and now he looks like a loser, because he is one.
“The Last Straw” - “Well, that about wraps it up,” he smirked as he tied the last ribbon. She brained him with a Louisville slugger.

My twitter handle is crankyd, since they didn’t allow hyphens.
I cannot believe I joined that thing. G-d help us all.

This is so me. I still dream that I have some high-school classes that I have to take. I still dream about classes I have forgotten to attend that I need to pass to get my PhD. I dream that I’ve applied for yet another graduate program somewhere.
It’s crazy, man.

From Ace, Obama is, of course, going to cut defense spending. Ace said near the end:
We can spend millions on studying the correlation between estrus and flatulence in bi-curious gophers but talk about building an F-22 and suddenly it’s “wasteful.”
That cracked me up.
Defense spending is one of the few legitimate items in the budget. If Obama stepped up the schedule for F22 delivery, and perhaps even ordered more, he could give the economy an immediate kick in the butt. It’s the same with other military equipment. A lot of it really needs to be replaced. Why not do that? It makes us more militarily ready and stimulates our economy at the same time.
Jeff G. has decided (rightly IMO) to take back his site and allow no more guest posters. There was a lot of drama going on there, and it was taking away from time he needed to spend on other projects. While I will miss the opportunity to write for a large audience, ultimately it has to be about him, his site, and his brand.
