That reality show guy that killed his wife

Filed under: General — by site admin @ 1:49 pm

If you have watched any teevee lately, you have seen the story about that guy who starred on reality shows killing his ex-wife and then cutting off her fingers, pulling out her teeth, and stuffing her in a suitcase. He was found hanged.

This is a good outcome. An even better one would have been if he had hanged himself before he killed his ex-wife.

The Economics of the Left

This guy is a really good writer. He often writes about religion, but this is about economics:One Cʘsmos: The Stone Age Economics of the Left: Who Would Jesus Bail Out?

Human beings couldn’t possibly have survived as individuals, but only as part of a tightly bonded group. Therefore, anything that promoted the fitness of the group is likely to have been strongly reinforced. In a small group, it would have obviously been detrimental for one member to horde all of the resources, so we might say that envy is a mechanism that is actually selected by evolution in order to maintain our intrinsic communism.

In other words, communism is our default state (as seen in our immediate families), whereas certain traits and habits of mind associated with capitalism must be learned, among them, trust of the stranger, the tamping down of envy, a focus on the future instead of the present, and an understanding that economic exchange isn’t a zero-sum game.

[…]Liberty is not a built in — much less universal — value, and I think you can see how this is a major part of understanding the motivations — or shall we say, the deep structure — of leftism. Classical liberals wonder why leftists don’t value freedom, but they shouldn’t.

Rather, the question is why we do value it, because it is an obvious aberration in the human race. Most humans value security over liberty, predictability over change, conformity over individuality, and authority over self-rule. So when we see that leftists hate freedom and progress but love authority and comformity, we shouldn’t be the least bit surprised, for it is true of most rank-and-foul humans. Political correctness, statism, micromanagement of our lives — these are all the natural consequences of a dread of liberty. [all emphasis was in the original]

There is a whole lot more there, but this gives you a taste of what he is arguing. I think he’s well worth the read. I am so far behind on his stuff I doubt I will ever catch up.

This made me laugh out loud, really

Filed under: General, Quick Links — by site admin @ 11:36 am

This made me laugh. High point:

Goff allegedly approached a man and woman last Thursday afternoon on an isolated logging road in Harrison County and forced them into the woods with a rifle, Sheriff’s Maj. Ron Pullen said Wednesday.

They were forced to strip off their clothes and told to perform sexual acts when the male victim, described as a physically fit member of the military in his mid-30s, wrestled the gun away.

“He beat him until the stock broke over his head and then continued to beat him until he thought he had him incapacitated,” Pullen said.

Glorious.

Some points about the current health-care reforms

Filed under: Political, Quick Links — by site admin @ 10:54 am

You can find some targeted criticism of the health-care reform here.

Big surprise, when they say the government won’t be rationing care, they are lying.

When they say you can keep your current health insurance, when at the same time are providing minimal guidelines for insurance than many people’s current insurance (including mine) don’t satisfy, they are lying.

Shorter respsonse: they are lying.

Why anyone would consent to have the government run the health-care system is beyond me. Even the president admitted that they cannot even run the post office.

Update: more good stuff here

Every wednesday on FoxNewz there is a special web-only half hour broadcast of “Special Report.” People can also type into a free-for-all chat window with suggestions for topics and the like. I wrote that they should thank Major Garrett for being one of the few journalists who is doing his job. Bret read it on the air, and suggested that “cranky-d” wasn’t so cranky right then.

We are weak but he is strong.

Yes, Bammy loves me,

You don’t have to either know or aprreciate John Hughes’ movies to appreaciate this:We’ll Know When We Get There: Sincerely, John Hughes.

As I was in the demographic, I saw a lot of his output. I was able to relate to it very well. He made “teen” movies that did not pander to his audience.

Why Obama should release his birth certificate

Filed under: Political, Quick Links — by site admin @ 1:52 pm

This is a good article on why Obama should be releasing his birth record. It has nothing to do with him not being a proper citizen of the U.S., as I fully believe he is, but it has a lot to do with Obama being forthcoming to the American public. He is the least-revealed person who has been president for a very long time.

I think he is hiding a lot of information, as well as telling a multitude of lies. If he were Republican, he would have been savaged by the press during the campaign, and would continue to be savaged if he had somehow won the election. The double standard is a travesty.
